Miss USA

If you know me, or have visited here before, you may wonder why I would be writing about the recent Miss USA scandal.  I’m not really a beauty pageant type of gal.  But there are a number of interesting thoughts to consider here. Read more

Sober Living

On New Year’s Day, the doorbell rang.  I often  ignore the doorbell.  It’s a hassle, holding the dogs back — but two German Shepherds can be quite useful with unwanted callers, as they appear to be straining at their collars to attack the intruders, while I, with difficulty, hold them barely inside the door.  Of course, they really want to greet the strangers with kisses and hugs, but this is not obvious to the casual observer, and I’ve learned it’s not necessary to explain.  People generally seem rather relieved when I tell them I can’t talk right now and don’t want to buy anything or have my carpets cleaned or change religions.
